“Dubai Chewy Cookie” Craze in Korea Prompts At-Home Recipe from Chilkab Nongsan

Chilkab Nongsan (CEO: Lee Young-ju) has released a recipe video for “Chilgapsan Chewy Cookie,” a homemade twist inspired by the crisp texture at the heart of the so-called “Dubai Chewy Cookie” trend. The recipe recreates the signature crunch by crushing rice noodles and sautéing them in butter, then adds a smooth peanut spread filling for a rich, nutty finish.

Despite the name, the “Dubai Chewy Cookie” is not a product originally made in Dubai. It is a Korea-made dessert that became popular locally, taking inspiration from Middle Eastern-style ingredients such as kataifi and pistachio spreads that were already familiar through the broader “Dubai chocolate” trend.

The trend has also been amplified by consumer behavior around customizing recipes and following viral items, turning online curiosity into real-world purchases. Communities have shared availability information and fueled competition for limited quantities, further accelerating the craze.
